Gogglebox fans have been left 'fuming' after a new episode of the show was shunned for a 'Best Bits' installment.

As Friday's episode (June 9) of the Channel 4 show kicked off, the narrator explained how so much had happened so far this year, prompting fans to realise it must be the end of the series.

The announcement left viewers 'disappointed' after they were expecting to see their favorite stars commenting on TV shows and films from over the past week. But instead, they were treated to a re-load of memorable scenes from the series.

Fans wasted no time in taking to Twitter to express their frustrations of seeing a 'Best Bit's Gogglebox episode instead of a new installment, with one person writing: "The crushing disappointment of a 'best of' #gogglebox."

A second asked:" Why do they advertise it as a new Gogglebox when it isn't???."

A third chimed in with: "Why a repeat tonight, it says New gogglebox and S21 ep16."

"I’m absolutely fuming at #Gogglebox being a repeat", stated one person.

"No, I don't want to see a ‘best bits’, I want to see what the #Gogglebox cast has to say about the shows this week. How disappointing", added another.

It seems Gogglebox fans will have to wait until later in the year for new episodes.

Fan favourite cast members, Jenny and Lee, revealed last Friday (June 2) that the programme will return in September.

Taking to Instagram after filming wrapped on the last episode, they wrote: "Happy Friday everyone gutted it's the last show of series 21 have a fabulous summer and we'll be back on the couch in September."

While Channel 4 has yet to announce a release date for the upcoming season, if past series are anything to go by, we can expect to see the new episodes arrive in mid-September.
